Overview: History

Corporate United was founded by Gregg Mylett in 1997 with a modest vision: to create the nation’s largest office products buying group. Gregg facilitated the first sourcing initiative in 1998, establishing a leveraged agreement that delivered tremendous value to each of the original six participants.

While Gregg continued with his mission of adding more members to the group, the founding companies pressed him to deliver the same value on other categories. These parallel paths have been followed to this day, and as a result Corporate United currently serves more than 175 member companies by providing access to 25+ leveraged agreements addressing the needs of human resources, procurement, IT, facilities, and operations professionals.

With more than a decade having passed since that original project, Corporate United has evolved to meet the changing needs of our growing membership. Through our leading category and supplier management services, Corporate United provides our members with quality, speed to market, and resource flexibility unique to our model.

Representing more than $600 billion in combined revenue, and more than 2 million employees, Corporate United stands alone as the world’s largest virtual organization and continues to provide our members with all of the cost, knowledge, and service advantages this leverage brings.

This leverage is applied to negotiations, supplier management, and continuous improvements, ultimately making every Corporate United member a “customer of choice.”

Knowledge: Corporate United facilitates a large network of professionals who participate in a dynamic forum. By sharing best practices across industries and categories, our members are able to efficiently identify the practical information they need to improve their performance, while the information resident within the group is used to enhance our agreements.

Support: Resource flexibility is critical to our members’ efforts, and by providing sourcing, implementation, and supplier and contract management services, Corporate United helps our members multiply their own efforts.

Efficiency: The Corporate United model eliminates opportunity cost by providing our members with immediate access to leveraged agreements. This speed-to-market advantage is further enhanced by our contract management and implementation support functions, helping members to quickly realize identified savings.

Corporate United presents suppliers with an unprecedented opportunity: access to the world’s largest virtual organization. In aggregate, Corporate United represents a $500 billion company with more than 1.7 million employees. This impressive scale creates enormous opportunities in every category of spend, but the value goes well beyond volume;
Advocacy: Corporate United is primarily compensated through administrative fees paid by our supply partners, so we maintain a keen focus on the promotion of our vendors’ offerings in addition to implementation and compliance initiatives aimed at supporting our clearly aligned objectives.

Transparency: Our committee-based strategic sourcing process has been designed to identify the best total value solution for our members, not simply the lowest price. This approach leads to our members receiving the best quality solution while simultaneously giving suppliers the opportunity to introduce the factors that differentiate them from their competitors.

Business Development: Corporate United presents suppliers with a unique opportunity to grow their business. With third-party support coming in the forms of establishing a master agreement, providing access to key stakeholders, marketing and promotion, and ongoing implementation and compliance support; Corporate United suppliers experience growth that would be impossible to duplicate through traditional channels.

Customer Retention: Our members’ involvement in the ongoing management of supplier relationships and Corporate United’s efforts to understand the total value potential of our suppliers’ offerings leads to the development of better customers. Our members are given a deep and broad understanding of the value our suppliers present, and in an era where nearly all categories are “bid out” on a cost-only basis, our suppliers find excellent retention rates while serving the savvy and educated Corporate United membership.
