Staffing & Workforce Solutions – Volt

Buyer Details
Member Industry: Graphics Communications
Revenue: $1.7 billion
Employees: 14,000

Existing Condition
A privately held graphics communications company comprised of more than 85 entrepreneurial businesses employing 14,000 people had a continual need to fill temporary staffing positions. With an annual staffing provider spend of $4 million and multiple vendors, the company began an effort to control contingent workforce costs and achieve related process efficiencies. Current vendors were having difficulty filling positions, and those they were able to fill had a high turnover rate. To make matters worse, the company was experiencing worksite safety and theft issues, requiring them to hire a third-party security guard to protect their employees and property.

Solution
The company turned to Corporate United for help, requesting a spend analysis and an explanation of the Volt Workforce Solutions agreement. The analysis showed an initial savings of 3% if the graphics communications company were to utilize Corporate United’s Volt agreement. As attractive as the savings were, the company wanted more certainty that Volt could perform better than the current vendors. Several discussions later, the company selected Volt as their national staffing provider and chose to institute the VoltSourcesm Managed Services Program. Volt would implement the managed program over three phases, allowing each entrepreneurial business to continue doing business as usual with current staffing providers for a specified period of time.

Results
One of the companies scheduled to transition to Volt during the first phase needed over 170 call center, data entry, manufacturing and distribution employees to support its peak season. Volt dedicated an onsite program coordinator at this business unit’s location to meet with supervisors and end-users to determine the company’s specific staffing challenges and goals. With this knowledge, familiarity with the territory and strong ties in the community, the coordinator successfully facilitated the sourcing of higher level candidates by the local Volt offices. The program coordinator decreased the turnover rate from 36.4% to 10.9% in four months by actively engaged the contingent employees, conducting extensive onsite orientations and regular check-ins to assure candidate and client satisfaction. Safety and security issues dropped also, eliminating the need for the third-party guard and reducing overhead expenses. Thanks to Volt’s workforce solutions and Corporate United, the privately held company achieved supplier consolidation and built a seemingly impossible consensus across its 85 businesses.
